Wisa’s Lawyer Dumps Him In Court

Wisa-Greid

Counsel for embattled Hiplife Musician Eugene Ashie, a.k.a Wisa Greid of ‘Ekiki Me’ fame, Jerry Agbenovor has abandoned his client at the premises of an Accra Court claiming the latter and his manager failed to properly negotiate the terms for his services.

Wisa is standing trial at an Accra Circuit Court 5 for showing off his genitals to a live audience in ecstasy on Christmas Eve last year and was due for court today Monday January 25, 2015.

At the time of going to press, the case was yet to be called in one of the country’s busiest courts but without any legal representation.

Speaking on the Ultimate Brunch Show Hosted by Naa Klordey Odonkor, Starr Fm’s Accra Court Correspondent Wilberforce Asare disclosed that Lawyer Jerry Agbenovor was in court but said he was not there as legal representation of Wisa.

He maintained that the musician and his manager had failed to properly negotiate the terms and conditions of his services and also remained tight-lipped over the exact amount to be paid to him as legal fees for his services.

Manager of the Musician has however promised to resolve the problem to ensure that the Musician is properly represented in court during the next adjournment date.

Jerry Agbenovor it would be recalled in defence for his client said he only showed a dildo and not his genitals during a live performance at the Accra International Conference Center.

The stance of his lawyer however contradicts that of the musician who openly apologized for his conduct stating;“I cannot explain this rash and irresponsible behaviour, but I have been trained to acknowledge my fault and be responsible for my actions. That is why I want to accept every bit of criticism that has come my way in the ensuing hours”.

Thousands stranded as cold snap hits East Asia

East-Asia-300x169

Cold snap sweeping across East Asia has led to more than 50 deaths in Taiwan and stranded at least 60,000 tourists in South Korea.

Taiwanese media reported a rash of deaths from hypothermia and cardiac disease following a sudden drop in temperature over the weekend.

Meanwhile heavy snow forced the closure of the airport on the Korean holiday island of Jeju, cancelling flights.

The cold spell has also hit Hong Kong, southern China and Japan.

It has also dropped temperatures in some parts of South East Asia, including Vietnam and Thailand.

Unusually low temperatures

Many of those who died in Taiwan were elderly people living in northern regions such as Taipei and Taoyuan, as well as some living in the southern city of Kaohsiung.

The north saw an unusually low temperature of 4C (39F) on Sunday, and many homes in Taiwan lack central heating.

In the capital of Taipei, many victims reportedly had heart trouble and shortness of breath.

“In our experience, it’s not the actual temperature but the sudden drop that’s too sudden for people’s circulatorysystems,” said a city official quoted by AP news agency.

Most of the victims in the city and its surrounding region, known as New Taipei City, were found indoors. A 56-year-old man surnamed Chen was found dead on the street Sunday morning, reported Focus Taiwan.

Authorities have warned people, especially senior citizens, to keep warm and stay out of the cold.

In South Korea, more than 500 domestic and international flights have been cancelled in Jeju as the island, known for balmy weather and beaches, saw -6C weather. The airport is due to reopen on Monday night.

Thousands of tourists were left stranded over the weekend. Yonhap news agency reported that local officials were scrambling to find transport and accommodation.

In Hong Kong, residents shivered in 3C, the lowest temperature there in nearly 60 years.

Parts of Guangzhou and Shenzhen in southern China have also seen the rare appearance of snow, while the southern Japanese island of Okinawa has seen sleet for the first time ever, report Chinese and Japanese media.

Snow storms have hit large parts of Japan as well, with more than 600 domestic flights cancelled across the country on Sunday and Monday, reported NHK news.

At least five people have died from the snow so far and more than 100 have been injured in Japan.

In Bangkok, which rarely sees temperatures below 20 C, temperatures dropped to around 16 C on Sunday, while Vietnam saw the coldest weather in about two decades over the weekend with Hanoi experiencing 6 C weather.

South Africa girls given student grants to remain virgins

SA-GIRLS

Women’s rights activists have criticised a South African municipality for a scholarship programme that funds studies for young women if they can prove they are virgins.

On Friday, the uThekela municipality, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), announced that 113 students would receivescholarships to pursue higher education in the country.

Sixteen scholarships were specifically designated for sexually inactive students, as part of a programme called Maiden’s Bursary Awards. The programme started in January 2015, but it is unclear how many students were awarded the scholarship in 2015.

Sisonke Msimang, a policy development and advocacy consultant for the Sonke Gender Justice project in Johannesburg, said the municipality’s decision was “a terrible idea [that] had so many layers of ridiculousness”.

“Being sexually active and seeking an education have nothing to do with each other,” Msimang told Al Jazeera.

Msimang described the programme as being an embodiment of “level upon level of patriarchal nonsense, unconstitutional misogyny and mixed-up madness”.

‘Pure and inactive’

Jabulani Mkhonza, spokesperson for the municipality, described the scholarships for virgins as a way to encourage “girls to keep themselves pure and inactive from s****l activity and focus on their studies”.

“Those children who have been awarded bursaries will be checked whenever they come back for holidays. The bursary will be taken away if they lose their virginity,” Mkhonza told AFP news agency.

Reacting to the news, the Department of Women told Al Jazeera they were aware of reports of the scholarship programme, and would be investigating the matter.

“We don’t support anything that undermines the rights of women. If these details are true, we would definitely find it objectionable, and engage with the municipality to resolve it,” Charlotte Lobe, media liaison officer at the department of women said.

Mkhonza, the spokesperson for the municipality, told Al Jazeera he was not authorised to respond to the criticism, and directed all enquiries to Mayor Dudu Mazibuko. Al Jazeera was not able to reach her.

Activists argued that not only did the scholarship undermine civil liberties, it was also counter-productive and short-sighted in the larger struggle against HIV/AIDS in the country.

South Africa is home to 6.4 million HIV positive people, the highest in the world. In 2014, Medical charity Doctors without Borders (MSF) said 25.2 percent of KZN’s adult population was HIV positive, compared to the national average of 17.9 percent. Women in KZN were also disproportinately affected by the virus, MSF said.

Another activist, Jennifer Thorpe said the scholarship programme inferred that discouraging women from s*x would reduce the spread of HIV, a strategy she said “silences conversation around safe s*x, consent, and importantly HIV medication and treatment.”

“What is needed is dialogue, information, and the provision of free contraception. This would be a more strategic line of policy for the municipality to pursue,” Thorpe wrote in South African publication Mail & Guardian.

“Only young women and girls are subjected to this practice. Boys are not tested, and hence are not stigmatised or rewarded for their virginity.”

One recipient of the award told News24 she did not mind the two check-ups she needed to take in order to apply for the scholarship. The 22-year-old second year pharmacy student said an elderly woman examined her in June and July.

“They open the v****a and look, but they don’t insert anything in it. I have never heard of them getting it wrong.”

Msimang said criticising the conditions of the scholarship should not be understood as an attempt to thwart proposals that back abstinence.

“The longer a young person, particularly a girl, abstains from s*x, the better, so this is not about suggesting that abstinece is a bad idea. But this type of programme ignores the fact that s****l behaviour of young women are often not on their terms.

“Many young women don’t have s*x because ‘they feel for it’, these are often choices out of their hands,” Msigmang added.

The municipality’s decision to award these scholarships comes at a time of extreme turmoil in higher education inSouth Africa.

Since October, students across the country, under the banner of the social media campaign #FeesMustFall, have demanded that government scrap university fees across the board. Student activists argue that almost 22 years after apartheid ended, exorbitant fees were now excluding the majority of from accessing higher education.

Thorpe said the “purity” discourse distracts from the point that these girls simply want access to affordable education.

Wizkid Welcomes Second Child?

wizkid

We know so  little  about Wizkid these days as he keeps his personal life and relationship on a very lowkey.

The popular singer reportedly has been going out with a pretty lady who resides in the U.S for a while and reports indicate that they might have welcomed a son together, although details are still sparse at the moment.

Although we are holding this report with a pinch of salt, here’s how LIB is reporting it:

There’s this pretty lady (Her IG name is bluediamond224) who reportedly hangs out a lot with Wizkid in the US. Rumour had it that they have been secretly dating for quite a while now. But since we knew Tania Omotayo was the babe shown in public, she seemed irrelevant. After all, we all know these singers love to keep an array of side-chic upandan.

Now back to the pretty lady.. She is a very close friend to American Reality TV personality – Natalie Nunn. To cut the long story short, this lady in question who has previously shared pretty close photos of herself & Wizkid, shared photos of her baby bump (clothed & na.ked) on Social Media after she had a baby boy. She first showed off the cute little hand of her son a week ago and then shared other photos.

Now, three days ago, Her friend/TV Personality, Natalie confirmed that her best friend in the US had a baby boy. She also said she’s visiting Lagos, Nigeria soon. Hmmn. Oh wait, she also said something which caught my attention. The baby in question was ‘Half Nigerian’.. What the? Hold on, Does that ring a bell? But of course… Erm, the babydaddy also lives in Lagos? Right? Hehe..

Ok.. To crown it all up, the lady announced the name of her son on instagram. You guessed right.. It’s Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun jr. All said & done, should we say congrats to Wiz on his second child?
